About Us

Bits of History
ALBERT TODD, the first president of Laurens Rotary, was a champion of education, serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Presbyterian College and Vice-Chair of the U. S. C. Board. He was instrumental in bringing Lander College to Greenwood.
Rev. WESTON BRUNER, a charter member, established the first golf course in Laurens.
Another charter member, Dr. J. H. POWE, ran a drug store on the square where he not only filled prescriptions and operated a soda fountain, but also sold all the textbooks used by Laurens City Schools up until the creation of School District 55.
For five decades, from the 1940s to the 1980s, CECIL ROPER was the musical heart of the club, playing the piano before, during, and after meetings.
The Laurens Rotary Club has produced three District Governors over the years: MARTIN TEAGUE (1956-57), JOHN FARIS (1983-84), and KING DIXON (1987-88).
